Overview of Traditional PBX Systems

PBX is An acronym for Private Branch Exchange and the gear is used for interconnecting phone extensions and lines within a workplace or within a company premises. The exchange is comparable to a central office exchange but it’s significantly smaller and privately owned.

The Main purpose of A PBX is to route incoming calls to the proper extensions within the company premises and also to share a group of back lines amongst extensions. When an external call is needed, an access number is dialed (instance “9”) to get an external trunk line.

Instead of Manually linking a telephone using a patch cable, a conventional PBX utilizes a tiny switch to route the analog signal. Traditional PBX systems were originally based on analog technology and might support only a limited number of phone lines. Finally, analog PBX switches were replaced with electronic switches to encourage higher densities of both internal phone lines and connections to outside lines and trunks.

In Large businesses, the PBXs will ordinarily be contained in a different wiring closet whereas smaller companies will have smaller and more streamlined Yeastar IP PBX sitting in the front desk. When purchasing a conventional PBX, the dimensions of the system is dependent upon the amount of extensions you need. Some PBX systems are scalable, and can accommodate additional extensions from the inclusion of a card which allows for more vents.
